The Annual Dragon Boat Race

We’re back with the 2022 Dragon Boat Race at Fairlop Waters, London.

Teams of 17 battle it out against each to be crowned champions of the water. Do you have what it takes to make it number one?

#Teamsalam will have two boats, adding an extra tasty layer of friendly competition to the race - pitting the boys against the girls, seeing who raises the most. It’s up to you to decide who the real champions of the water are.

Spaces are limited and usually get booked very quickly. Book your seat on the #teamsalam boats and join us on this epic race.

What does the race involve?

Dragon boat racing is a forward-facing rowing competition with 16 rowers and 1 drummer at the bow. The specialist dragon boat company will provide a cox who will steer from the rear. No previous experience is required as each team will be inducted individually on the day.

You can be safe in the knowledge that your safety is our number one priority and we are working with a specialist dragon boat club who are providing all legal, health and safety, and public liability cover for the event.

The Cause: Sustainable Water Projects

The onset of conflict in 2015 pushed an already fragile country deeper into poverty: Yemen.

Access to water remains a significant challenge as water infrastructure has been damaged or fallen into disrepair.

Salam Charity located a well close to the community, but this was empty and heavily polluted. We installed a solar powered pump and filtration system to provide a sustainable, long-term and reliable source of water, as well as a tank and cover to protect against pollution and cholera.

This project has enabled 1,200 people access to safe clean water. The time spent by women collecting water has been massively reduced. As a result, girls now have an opportunity to attend school.

After the success and impact of this project, we have decided to establish a long-term commitment to work with local communities across Yemen and rehabilitate the water infrastructure which often involves input from engineers and local authorities to revive water wells and install solar panels which mean long-term, stable supplies of water for whole communities.
